Life at 112 Carlota Galgos: Rescue, Rehabilitation and Remembering Parker
Dogs arrive at 112 Carlota Galgos in very different circumstances. Some have suffered neglect or abuse, while others have been abandoned or are simply in need of a new home.
For those who arrive injured or in poor health, veterinary treatment and rehabilitation can be a long process. Others are ready for adoption much sooner and need somewhere safe to stay until the right family comes along.
At our sanctuary, we care for each dog according to their individual needs. Some require surgery, medication and time to recover. Others need patience, attention and a chance to settle into their new surroundings.
The video accompanying this article shows some of the dogs at our sanctuary and the work involved in caring for them. It is also dedicated to Parker, one of the most difficult cases we have ever faced.
Parker’s Story – A Promise Kept
When Parker was rescued, his leg was broken in two and was barely being held together by skin. It was a terrible injury, and he needed specialist veterinary treatment.
The surgeons managed to reconstruct his entire leg. What they achieved was remarkable, and as Parker recovered, he was eventually able to stand and walk on all four legs again.
I had promised Parker that he would get to use his leg again, and thanks to the extraordinary work of those surgeons, he did.
Sadly, while he was recovering, Parker became unwell. He was diagnosed with lymphoma, and despite everything he had already been through, he didn’t survive.
He was only two years old.
Losing him was heartbreaking, particularly after seeing him recover from such a serious injury. But he did get to walk on four legs again, and that was something I had promised him.
Parker was an absolute miracle. He was a legend, and we will never forget him.
In loving memory of Parker.
Caring for the Dogs at Our Sanctuary
Parker’s story is one example of the challenges involved in rescuing and rehabilitating dogs, although not every dog who arrives at 112 Carlota Galgos needs such extensive treatment.
Some have suffered injuries or mistreatment and require veterinary attention and a period of recovery. Others arrive in good physical condition but have nowhere to go.
The work at the sanctuary involves caring for all of them, providing food, shelter, medical treatment when necessary and the attention they need while they are with us.
For many of these dogs, the next step is finding a family who can offer them a permanent home.
